Home and Garden show more than it appears

First-timers at the B.C. Home and Garden Show — currently underway at BC Place Stadium — might be surprised by what can be included under the headings of “home” and “garden.”
You’ll have plenty of opportunity to learn more about how to improve your home (and your garden), both visually and practically, with vendors to help of course. From windows and doors to furniture and floors, and from plants to patio covers, there are ways to make your home more attractive whether it’s for you or a prospective buyer. The show, which runs through Sunday, pretty much fills the floor space at BC Place.
Oh yes…what you might not expect to see, unless you’re a H&G Show veteran.
You can buy chocolates, or paintings, or olive oil, or chess sets, or curling irons. You can take home a wine opener, ear rings or a foot massager. Put it another way: pretty much everything from soap to a tiny home or — as Jimmy Buffett would say — lost shakers of salt.
And the outdoors types are attracted by….the chain saws and electric bikes and anything made of iron, such as stairways. And you can even get building permits “painlessly” — presumably to make it easier for municipal approval.
BC Hydro is a major sponsor of the show and its people are happy to share information about the latest eco-friendly products available and how to see if the products (and you) qualify for Hydro rebates.
The bottom line is that this annual four-day event is so much more than a “home and garden” show.
