There can be a legitimate connection between Earth Day (tomorrow) and real estate. Promoting energy efficiency is known ti be a valuable factor in selling a home, which means it’s important to both buyers and sellers.
The number of ways that homes are becoming more energy efficient seems to be growing all the time.
In recognition of Earth Day, let’s say you want to do your best to be a “green” seller — whether you’re planning to list it now or at some time in the future. How can you make your home more attractive to “green” buyers?
You can make it more water efficient. This includes everything from installing water-efficient shower heads and toilets and touchlees faucets to changing plastic pipes to steel or cast iron, which are recyclable and which are free of chemical additives.
You can reduce electricity to be more energy efficient. Halogen or LED light bulbs save energy. Sealing leaks to make sure windows and doors are not drafty saves energy, as does installing energy-efficient (Low-E glass) windows. When roofs, siding or insulation need to be replaced, there are options that will save energy.
And if you’re an educated “green” buyer, you’ll be looking for homes that are consistent with your philosophy about saving the planet.
Earth Day is just an appropriate reminder.
