Vancouver residents who are working from home during the pandemic and need more space to do that have taken to the backyard in the search for the peace and quiet they left behind in their traditional offices.
However, the construction of a small, backyard office is not as simple as it sounds, and not as simple as it used to be.
According to a report on NEWS1130, building permits can be required, which may mean multiple drawings are also required. In the City of Vancouver, for example, this changed in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and one contractor says this makes the project more daunting for the homeowner. So anybody with designs on building an office in the backyard would be wise to check with municipal officials before starting.
