You’re single. You’re thinking about buying a home. You’re uncertain, because it’s something you’ve never done. And because you’re single, any conversation about whether it’s a wise move starts like this:
“Self, what do you think?”
Here’s a couple of things you might like to inject in that one-way conversation:
One, you need to check off all the boxes. Is your job secure? Check. Is there a financial fallback if something happens after your purchase? Check. Are you comfortable being solely responsible will all that’s included in home ownership? Check.
Two, being single doesn’t change your approach.
If you like yard work and it’s important to have a garden, chances are you’re looking at a house. If you want to avoid yard work and whatever winter brings, a townhouse might be more appealing. If you want a turnkey situation, an apartment could be your focus.
It’s probably best to choose a home that suits your lifestyle rather than picking a good investment.
Or…you can do both.
