Making picture on the wall look 'just right'

There are easy, and inexpensive, ways to make your home look nicer, which is especially important if you’re thinking of putting it on the market.
One way is picture hanging.
A few years ago, an interior designer offered two tips that stand the test of time about how to hang pictures.
The first was: Don’t go high.
Most DIY picture hangers make the mistake (and it is considered a mistake) of hanging pictures too high on a wall. The focal point of a picture, for artwork, should be at eye level — about 1.5 metres (60 inches) from the floor.
If it’s too high, chances are that visitors looking at the picture will be craning their necks.
The second tip is how you make sure it’s 1.5 metres off the floor, easily.
Here’s how:
1. Stretch the wire on the back of the picture until it’s taught.
2. Measure from the wire’s highest point to the top of the picture frame (let’s say it’s one centimetre).
3. Hold the picture against the wall so the focal point is at eye level.
4. Lightly pencil a short, horizontal line on the wall, at the top of the picture frame.
5. Measure down one centimetre and that’s where you put the picture hook or nail.
It’s simple, and fast.
And your room will look more modern.
