Being prepared to move when your home sells

The house sold. Countdown to moving date has started.
So has panic, because you just know as you’re going out the door for the last time you’ll be shovelling half-packed boxes of “stuff” into the back seat of the car.
Everybody has a list to help with moving.
Here is ours…
1. Start with an inventory, purging what’s not going and making your estimate accurate so there are no surprises for the mover nor for you when the bill comes.
2. Book your mover (or rental truck if you’re moving yourself) well in advance.
3. Change your address wherever it has to be changed, allowing up to six weeks for processing.
4. Empty, don’t stock, the kitchen cupboards. Why pay to move food?
5. Find free or deeply discounted moving supplies online.
6. Start packing, marking the boxes for timeliness (immediate), room (dining room) and fragility.
7. Read the mover’s contract carefully to make sure everything’s on it.
8. Walk through your empty house, to turn off lights, lock doors and windows and make sure nothing’s left behind.
Start to enjoy your new home!
